The Immigration Process

Everyone bringing a child into the United States for the purposes of adoption must file an I-600 petition- a "Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative." This petition is filed through the United States Citizen and Immigration Services (US CIS).

To speed the US CIS paperwork process, you may begin with the "Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition" (I-600-A) with the US CIS before you have identified a specific child. US CIS has offices throughout the United States. The US CIS office in Georgia is located at the Federal Annex Building, 77 Forsyth Street S.W., Atlanta 30303; 404-331-5158. Forms and information may be requested from the Director, Outreach Program, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services, 425. 1 Street, Washington, D.C. 20536 or by dialing 404-331-3183 or 1-800-870-3676 and requesting the forms through their automated system.

You can also get the forms off the Internet from their web site: http://uscis.gov/graphics/
